Passaic County Community College Announces an Extended and Expanded Tuition-Free Grant Program for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

PATERSON, NJ – Passaic County Community College (PCCC) announces that the Community College Opportunity Grant Program (CCOG), which enables qualifying students to attend PCCC tuition free, has been extended for the 2019-2020 academic year. Additionally, the household income limit to qualify has been increased to allow even more individuals this opportunity.

Now, prospective and current students from households with an annual adjusted gross income (AGI) of $65,000 or less may qualify for a CCOG grant award if they register for six or more credits in the Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 semester.

Dr. Steven Rose, president of PCCC, commented,”Community College Opportunity Grants can change lives by making a college education possible where it was previously out of reach.“

Funded by the State of New Jersey, the CCOG grant award covers any tuition still outstanding after other federal and state aid has been applied, as well as educational fees.

The CCOG program was introduced last spring in a pilot program that included 13 of New Jersey’s community colleges, including PCCC where nearly 400 students received the grants. At that time, the income limit to qualify was significantly lower.

According to Governor Phil Murphy, the pilot program represented a first step toward the ultimate goal of completely free community college in the state. The successful results of the pilot program prompted the extension of the program to the 2019-2020 academic year and the higher ceiling on income limits. Additionally, all New Jersey community colleges now participate.

To qualify for the CCOG, students must complete either the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), or the Alternative Application for New Jersey Dreamers. The deadline to complete both is September 15, 2019.
